Will a 13,500BTU AC run on 20Amp Service?
We are looking at camping 4th of July weekend at a campground that only has 20amp service. All campsites we have camped in the past has either had 30amp or no electric.
Because I am lazy I didn't feel like driving to my camper in storage and seeing if I could find a label on it to see what it would draw so I am looking for some help.
I am aware that 20amps=2400Watts @ 120V. I looked up in my manual and it states that if you are running on 20amp service to not use the Microwave concurrently as the A/C is running. The only reason I question this is I know my 2000 watt generator would not start the A/C so I am leery of this. Is the 400 watts that much of a difference? Or is the grid power just able to start the generator for a couple seconds without tripping the breaker?
Anyone else have any experience with this? Thanks.

I've run my 13,500 BTU A/C on a 20A circuit. However, you must practice some "energy management". I recommend running your refrigerator and HWT on propane and refrain from using any electric appliances with a heavy draw (i.e. microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, hair dryer, iron, etc.). You can usually get away with running one appliance with the A/C but you'll need to experiment as they all vary in the amount of electricity they draw. Most of the time, when I tripped the breaker it was because the A/C and some other appliance I wanted to use came on at the exact same time.
Who knows? Maybe the weather will be cool enough that all you'll need for remaining comfortable is to run a fan. I once went to the Outer Banks in August and it was so cold we had to wear sweat shirts at night.
