Re: Welcome to Jaycoforum.com!
I almost considered buying another brand due to the lack of internet support for these trailers but I found RV.net had enough hopefully we'll get this going

What we've been looking for!
We've been looking for an active Jayco forum to research the Designer. The Yahoo group has almost no activity, so it's nice to see this Jayco forum. Thanks!

Re: Welcome to Jaycoforum.com!
If it works for Apache owners (like me) and a lot of do it yourselfer's (like me) this should be great. I have a new to me 1990 Jayco Pop Up that needs some attention. The Apache groups are full of people who have found ways to repair, maintain and modify those hardsides to keep them going. I got my Jayco from one of my wife's co-workers who was having some financial problems like we are, but this was a win/win for everyone.
Weather changed right after I brought it home so I only have some early pictures of what I'm starting with. I got it open and started cleaning, getting out all of the hornet's nests everywhere! This Jayco only forum is a good idea and hopefully it takes off. I came here from the posting on one of the Yahoo groups. I'm also a member of the other Pop Up forums on the web.

JAYCO Australia
Hi,
I am a Jayco owner, but in Australia.Models seem to be the same but there doesn't seem to be any corporate connection between the US and OZ companies.
Can anyone enlighten me please?
When we had kids I had a 36 footer which I towed with a Range Rover - well it a questions of which was the tail and which was the dog! Now 5 children and 4 stepchildren out of the way, and one spouse, my present parter and I have both retired and purchased a small 14.5 foot Jayco Starcraft poptop whihc we are pulling with a 3.5 litre V6 Misubishi Magna which we exported to the US badged as a Diamente. We also have a 9-3 Saab Turbo convertible but I am yet to see a caravan being towed by a Saab convertible.
As an Aussie, is it OK to join this forum?
Thanks ...

Interesting.
If you check out the www.jayco.com.au site you will see the same 'designs' and product names as you have in USA, but neither the US nor the Australian sites refer to each other. We are told out here that -
"...In the winter of 1975, Jayco developed its first camper trailers and production commenced in January 1976. The company was founded by Gerry Ryan, OAM, who remains at the helm as its Managing Director.
Jayco quickly established a reputation for producing high quality, competitively priced caravan and camping products, and within a few short years it had become a leading player in the Australian recreational vehicle (RV) industry ... Jayco prides itself on being a “family company”. The Jayco family includes management, staff, dealers, customers and owners of Jayco product. Jayco is now one of the most recognized brands in Australia; an established and familiar household name. Each year, a Jayco is ‘home away from home’ for hundreds of thousands of Australians.
Now in its fourth decade, the company - with some 725 employees - is one of the great success stories of Australian manufacturing..."
When we look at www.jayco.com we are told that
"...Jayco, Inc. was founded in 1968 by a man of strong faith and vision. The late Lloyd J. Bontrager, family man and inventor, felt he could build the world a better RV. He longed to create a company of his own, one that clearly reflected his ideals: a company where everyone would be treated as "family".
With encouragement from his wife Bertha, Lloyd started Jayco on their farm—in two chicken houses and a barn! He developed his own prototype camping trailer and a unique lifter system for fold-down campers, the basic design of which is patented and still in use today. By the end of 1968, his fledgling company of 15 employees had sold 132 fold-down camping trailers. Today, Jayco's "family" of employees has grown to nearly 1,600 people, while more than 25,000 people join our "extended family" of customers each year.
Jayco, Inc. develops and manufactures a full-line of recreation vehicles at its company headquarters in rural Middlebury, Indiana and markets them through a nationwide network of nearly 300 dealers. With a history dating back to 1968, Jayco's mission remains unchanged—to build exemplary RV's and provide customers with extraordinary service after the sale..."
I will phone them here for a 'comment' about the US operation/ownership. Maybe someone has the time and the inclination to do the same in the US, and then we can compare answers
Re: Welcome to Jaycoforum.com!
I just found a detailed Jayco History I posted in another thread. I also Called Jayco today.Seems that the Australian company is NOT owned by the jayco family. They License the name to the company over there as well as supply some parts. It is very similar to when Fleetwood was making "coleman branded" pop ups in the U.S. a few years ago. Fleetwood did not own the coleman company but used the name on the rigs for advertising
Interesting ...

Jayco out here is NOT top of the heap. You will read comments like "...you'll enjoy our caravan park whether you are a Jayco or a Coromal camper...". I used to have other barands but now am quite happy with Jayco. It is a bit like having a Toyota Landcruiser in our Outback as you find a blacksmith can can effect repairs and there will be parts under a tree somewhere.
So you'll put up with an OZ in your group?
Got a new one
We picked up our new 2009 Jayco 28R last Friday. We are loving it. I am so impressed with the quality of the cabinets and the workmanship that Jayco produces.
This is our second tt. Our first one was and R-Vision product. We had to go bigger and I am glad I did.
