power or manual awning? Empty power or manual awning?

Post  Northern Jay Wed Apr 08, 2009 12:07 am

We take delivery of our 08 311 in 2 days. It is equipped with a power awning, our old trailer was manual. Just wondering what people thought of there power awnings in comparison to manual?

When I had a Jayco 19H with a power awning we really liked it. It was nice to just push a button and watch it roll out. Another nice thing is when storm comes you can quickly retract it instead of taking 5 min. to retract your manual awning. However, we didn't have it long enough to see what the long term reliability was.

On our 322FKS I really like the power awning for the reasons listed. One part that is not likeable is the ease in which a light wind can lift the awning. I have added a hold down strap that we use whenever the awning is out and there is a possiblity of wind. It takes away the quick rollup but doesn't change my opinion of the awning.

Our Jayco came with a power awning which we like for the ease of operation. Luckily ours is the angled version so the rain rolls off, as opposed to the straight out model where the water can pool. Would have liked an adjustable arm that can be lowered so we could direct that rain to roll off where we want.

I didn't go for the G2 version of my trailer because of the power awning. My S.O. loves her awning lights and I was told that I couldn't "Lock" it in for use.

I just bought a Jayco Eagle with the auto awning and would replace it with a manual one in a heart beat. It slants and if you are on a level spot, there is barely any head clearance.

Just don't extend it out all the way. You'll gain a few inches of headroom that way.
