Has anyone had an issue with the floors being "spongy"? It is almost like there is not enough support under there. You can actually feel it "sponge" a little when walking on it. Called the dealer and we are taking it to his location tomorrow. More updates to follow.

Dropped the 5vr off today. Dealer said he has actually had about four units of my model year with the same problem. Said the fix was no problem and they would get it done right. Sounds like the plan right now is to remove the belly-skin and basically add more supports to the floor. This seems like a good idea to me right now because you can physically see the floor joists through the linoleum and they are rather far apart as compared to a stick house. I didn't measure but I am guessing they are about 30 inches apart. He is also going to fix a few other small items while it is there and give me a complete service for nothing to cover my headache. Seems good so far, to be continued........

We bought it new in 2007 and everything was fine but as the season went on I started to notice a little "sponginess" in the kitchen area as I walked. At first I thought, huh, must have always been that way. This last summer it seemed to be a little worse and when I mentioned it to the dealer he said he did have a couple of people report this issue. Easy fix, according to him, by just adding more joists in the floor from outside in the belly area. I will keep you all posted.

I don't recall the model(s) or model year, but Jayco incorporated a "unitized laminated flooring structure" in lieu of the 5/8" tongue & groove wood flooring. I did hear that in some cases, depending on the floor plan, the unitized flooring would "give" a little as you walked across it. There were some reports of the laminate seperating (glue giving-way), and in others additional floor joist supports were incorporated.

The laminated flooring structure has been used a lot in ultra-lites, and to cut costs and weight Jayco started (2007 model year?) to incorporate it in some of the Jay Flight and Eagle models a couple of years ago.

Soft floor on Jayflight 31.5 BHDS Empty RE: "Spongy" floor Jayco

Post  montcowz Tue Mar 10, 2009 7:40 pm

Our experience with weak, spongy floor on 2007.
We own a 2007 Jay Flight 28.5 RLS 5th wheel. We purchased new in March of '07. After several months we noticed a weakness in the floor, approx. in front of the kitchen sink. It seemed to sag between floor stringers in several areas. We notified the dealer, and arranged for repairs "after camping season." It was repaired in December of '07, and the repair lasted till the first trip out in '08. Again, we arranged for a repair in the fall. A more thorough repair was completed (finally) in January '09. This was a complete replacement of the floor under the living area-minus the slide-out. (They showed me pictures of the entire process.) I am confident this time they've solved the problem, but we'll know for sure after we've taken a few trips. Both repairs were under Jayco warranty- our only complaint was the incredible time lapse from when the dealer recieved it, till work was completed-more than 8 weeks each time. Supposedly, due to slowness on the part of Jayco engineers to correspond with the dealer as to a solution.

Soft floor on Jayflight 31.5 BHDS Empty Re: Soft floor on Jayflight 31.5 BHDS

Post  hyattjlbb Wed May 06, 2009 10:48 pm

Update: Well I was supposed to have the 5vr back the 3rd week of April. During that week the dealer called me and said they were running behind as the "normal" fix of adding more joists has not fixed the problem throughout the Jayco 2007 model year. He had a fix-it kit (Involves total floor section replacement and new vinyl along with support kit for belly area) sent from Jayco and it will be done this week (Hopefully). This is supposed to take care of the problem entirely as they have been repairing this issue for a couple of years now and seem to have it down pat.

On the flip side, I couldn't have asked for better customer service from the dealer. He has already thrown in the seasonal service, general check-up, lube, adjust, etc. About a 60 dollar service normally. He has done well keeping us informed of the process so far BUT I can't wait to get her back home where she belongs!
