Tow Vehicle Empty Tow Vehicle

Post  ch47d99 Sat Feb 28, 2009 9:54 pm

I'll start this thread Very Happy
2006 Nissan Armada SE Off Road
This is the best vehicle I have ever owned. I actually have not towed with it yet, but it will have its maiden tow in April. I have some friends that have used their Armadas for towing quite a bit, and they are very happy with its performance. One thing I really like about it versus the other 1/2 ton based SUVs is the availability of OEM tow mirrors. I got those installed recently so she is ready to go. It is a shame that it looks like Nissan is going to cancel the Armada after the 2010 model year. No

used to sell Nissans and like you said the Armada is a great vehicle and it really is a shame it's being discountinued along with the Titan. Both nice rigs

We tow with a 2005 Ford Excursion Ltd., 4x4 V-10. It's got around 57,000 miles on it now. We really debated about a 4 door truck, but decided that right now, with the kids and dogs...it was smarter to stay with the SUV. My wife really did a lot of online searching to find this one! Our previous tow vehicle was an 1998 Ford Expedition XLT 4x4, still going strong at 136,000 miles! It was fine with our last trailer, which was an ultralight. But when we decided to upgrade to the X, we decided we could also upgrade with the TT and get some more space! The last TT didn't have any slide-outs and was only 29' long. The new one has 2 slides and is 32' and I wouldn't feel comfortable towing with anything smaller than my X!!

I have a 2005 F150 XLT Supercab Long Bed, Heavy Payload Package, 163in wheel base.
5.4L, factory 4.10LS rearend, Max tow rating 9200lbs, GCWR 15,300lbs.

We pull a 2007 Jayco 31BHDS, loaded it weights in at 8500lbs. This is a great Indiana rig, cus it likes the __FLATLAND__. It does pull ok over the smokys mtns. but at 5000 ft and above on our way to Yellowstone in 2008 it was really working it.

Tow Vehicle Empty Our Tow Vehicle

Post  ellen and shawn Wed Mar 25, 2009 9:00 am

We just bought a 2002 chevy suburban 2500 with and 8.1 ltr. engine. I am going to get myself into trouble. That thing has some power to it. I barely push on the gas and it goes. We have a chevy suburban 1500 and it goes but not like this one. We needed the big engine to tow our trailer we are buying.

When I said my vehicle could get me into trouble you were right Mike. I don't follow the speed limit law very well and this vehicle can get going rather fast. Aren't speed detectors illegal in Michigan? Of course most of the major highways are 70 mph up there. Indiana is still at 60 or 65.

2003 Chevy Silverado LT Quadrasteer. Its fully loaded, leather, heated seats, 4x4, Extended cab, and the best thing of all....quadrasteer. For those that dont know what quadrasteer is, its 4 wheel steering. At slow speeds, the rear wheels turn the oposite direction of the front wheels. At higher speeds they turn the same direction. It also has 4 wheel steering towing mode as well. Same principal as before, but the wheels turn even sharper. When I bought it, I wasnt to sure how well I was going to like it for towing. This has to be the best invention ever. Makes lane changes a snap. Just wish chevy wouldnt have stop installing this option.

"General Motors Corp. will discontinue its Quadrasteer 4-wheel steering technology as an option on fullsize pickups and SUVs by the end of the '05 model year, Ward's learns, and the feature will not appear on the next-generation GMT900 fullsize vehicles, which begin production next year.

Quadrasteer, developed by Delphi Corp., was an expensive option that was extremely popular with a small number of buyers but was not profitable.
However, the GMC dealer says he has no plans to order more Quadrasteer-equipped vehicles, because those he had earlier were difficult to sell.

GM previously has admitted it botched the rollout of Quadrasteer with exorbitant pricing. It initially was packaged priced at about $7,000 with a host of other features."

I liked Quadrasteer but never understood who would pay 5-7 grand for it

Post  shockergeek Sun Mar 29, 2009 11:13 am

Yeah I nknew it was a really expensive option. From what I understand, in 05 it was only about $2000. Anyways, I bought the truck used...so I didnt have to pay the full price. I probably wouldnt have bought the quadrasteer option on a new truck either...as you would be up in the Duramax price range.
But its still funny to see the looks people give the truck when I pull in and leave the wheels turned. People come up and say, "you better go and have that thing checked out, your rear end is about to fall out."
lol!

The 7,800lbs you stated I assume is the GVWR of the Jay Feather 311. My borther in-law has a F-150, 5.4L, 3.73 gear, and tows an '07' Jay Flight 31 BHDS with just under a 8,000lb "loaded" weight. He says it pulls "ok", but tends to stay on the flats, and says that the mountains will require a 3/4 ton with a larger engine (based on his towing habits). In the hills of Michigan he says the 5.4L works hard, but without incident. He did upgrade his tires (to LT's) from the stock ones that came with the F-150.
